Contractors submit bids for Ruwais pipeline

22 June 2007

Technical bids were submitted in early June for the contract to build the 225-kilometre-long Ruwais gas pipeline network. The client is Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Company (Gasco).

Several contractors are competing for the work including the UAE's National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), Italy's Snamprogetti, Egypt's Petrojet, Dubai-based Dodsal, and Larsen & Toubro and Punj Lloyd, both of India.

The estimated $250 million engineering, procurement and construction work covers the replacement of the existing natural gas liquids pipelines network, including: an 89-kilometre-long pipeline from Asab to Bab; a 34-kilometre-long pipeline from Bab to milestone pole (MP) 21; a 35-kilometre-long pipeline from Bu Hasa to MP 21; and a 67-kilometre-long pipeline from MP 21 to Ruwais. Commercial prices are now due in mid July (MEED 20:4:07).

Gasco operates major gas plants in Abu Dhabi for processing associated and non-associated gas. The largest facility is at Habshan, which has capacity of 3,500 million cubic feet a day (cf/d), followed by Bab, at 150 million cf/d. The Habshan plant produces 6,800 tonnes a day of NGLs, while NGL produced at Bab is transported to the Ruwais processing plant.
