Two stadium construction deals were awarded in 2015
Contractors have submitted bids for the deal to complete the expansion of the Al-Rayyan World Cup stadium in Qatar.
The 45,000-seat stadium will host group matches during footballs 2022 Fifa World Cup, and is expected to cost about QR1.3bn ($357m) to complete. The concept design was prepared by Germanys Albert Speer & Partner (AS&P). The consultant is Denmarks Ramboll and US-based Aecom is the project manager.
Qatar Foundation is developing the stadium, which will be located in Education City.
Other stadiums in Qatar are also seeing progress. In December 2015, a joint venture of the local Midmac Contracting Company and Austrias Porr won the contract to build the Al-Wakrah stadium.
In July 2015, Doha awarded the first main construction contract for one of the new stadiums it plans to build for the World Cup. A joint venture of Italys Salini Impregilo and Cimolai, and the local Galfar Engineering was awarded a 770m ($850m) contract by the local Aspire Zone to build the Al-Bayt stadium in Al-Khor.
In April 2014, Qatar awarded the first World Cup stadium construction contract to a joint venture of Belgiums Six Construct and Midmac Contracting Company. The estimated $300m deal involves upgrading the existing Khalifa stadium and increasing the seating capacity of the stadium to 60,000, from the current 45,000.
