Position: Interior minister
Biography: Prince Mohammed bin Nayef al-Saud was appointed crown prince and deputy prime minister by King Salman on 28 April 2015. King Salman had made him deputy crown prince and second deputy prime minister only three months before on 23 January 2015.
He was born in 1959, son of the late Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, who was also deputy prime minister and interior minister. He studied in the US and received counter-terrorism training in the US and the UK. Becoming interior minister in 2012, he is known for his hardline approach to jihadism and dissent, and his close links with the US security establishment. He survived an al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) assassination attempt in 2009 when he was assistant interior minister.
