The local Darwish Engineering has won an estimated AED400m ($108m) construction contract on the Sharjah Mall development.

The contractor has a two-year contract to build the concrete structure for the project, which is located in the Al-Khan area of Sharjah near to the emirate’s aquarium. It includes a four-level, 325,000 square metre shopping mall and two towers, a 15-floor office tower, and a 26-floor residential tower.

The contract to complete the mall will be tendered separately. The client, local developer International Private Investments, had asked contractors to submit bids for a contract to build the whole mall, but it later decided to reduce the scope and just award a contract for the superstructure.

The local International Foundation Group has completed the piling works. The consultant is France’s Gambert (MEED 20:7:09).

Developers are planning to build several shopping malls in Sharjah. Local owners Bukhatir Investments and Ghobash Investments plan to spend AED5bn ($1.4bn) expanding the Sahara Centre shopping mall.

Dubai-based Majid al-Futtaim also plans to expand its Sharjah City Centre mall.
