Yazd Regional Electricity Company (YREC)has requested expressions of intent from international and local power companies to develop a 1,000-MW, build-own-operate (BOO) power plant. The company says it will probably not issue a tender for the project, but directly negotiate the project with an interested developer.
The plant will have two 500-MW gas turbines, for which YREC says it has already been given feedstock commitments by National Iranian Gas Company. It says a site near the southern city has also been allocated and the local Moshanir Power Engineering Consultantshas been appointed consultant. The project is estimated to cost Eur 300 million ($369 million) and is scheduled to come on stream in five years. It is unusual for regional electricity companies to tender generation projects themselves, but YREC says it will carry out all negotiations in the presence of representatives from parent company Iran Power Generation & Transmission Company (Tavanir). Tehran Regional Electricity Companyis also preparing to tender a 1,000-MW power plant.
