The bids were submitted on 21 July.
Five of them were submitted for the 1,500MW power island, including bids from Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, all of South Korea. Dubai-based Dodsal Group and China’s Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation also bid.
Italy’s Fisia Italimpianti and Doosan submitted bids for the 120 million gallon-a-day desalination island on the project.
Dewa retendered the project in May after it said the original prices submitted by bidders were too high.
“This time we managed to get more bids and prices are still high but less than before,” says a Dewa official.
A retender for the second phase of the project has been delayed until the end of 2008 (MEED 1:7:08).
