Education council awards Dubai-based architect Al-Ain schools deal
Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has awarded Dubai-based Dewan Architects & Engineers a contract to design six schools in Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi.
Dewan will design four schools for girls and two schools for boys. Each will have the capacity to hold between 1,225 and 1,500 students.
Adec is planning to build 18 schools in Al-Ain as part of plans to upgrade education infrastructure throughout the emirate.
Dewan also recently won a contract to design and manage the construction of a new $35m secondary school in the Al-Bateen district of Abu Dhabi. Dewan will complete the architectural and engineering designs, and provide supervision services on the construction of the new school.
The project is part of an Adec initiative to build a world-class education system in the emirate. In addition to building new schools, Adec announced plans in March to upgrade all government classrooms in Abu Dhabi by 2015-16 (MEED 28:3:10).
