Facility is firms third ground and air operations centre in Saudi Arabia
US-based DHL Express has opened its largest ground and air operations facility in Saudi Arabia at Jeddahs King Abdulaziz International airport.
Called Jeddah Gateway, the 15,000 square-metre facility will enable DHL to introduce additional network flights into Jeddah as demand increases, the company said in a statement.
The new facility, which cost SAR90m ($23.9m), can handle up to 4,000 shipments per hour and process more than 100,000 shipments a day. The new facility brought the firms total investment in such facilities in Saudi Arabia to SAR 200 million so far.
The facility has 40 vehicle spaces with the ability for indoor loading and offloading of shipments, and has airside and landside dedicated in-house customs clearance stations. It is also equipped with over 120 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras that provide live feed to airport security and the customs office.
DHL Express has two smaller facilities located in Dammam and Riyadh, which opened in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
The new facility demonstrates our commitment and confidence in the growth of the Saudi economy while fulfilling customers changing needs, said Ken Allen, CEO of DHL Express.
