DIFC gateway building goes for bid

Companies have been invited to bid by 26 February for the contract to build the gateway building on the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The 15-storey building will the centrepiece of the proposed DIFC development and will house the Dubai Financial Market (stock exchange) and the DIFC headquarters (MEED 10:1:03).

The prospective bidders for the contract include Khansaheb Civil Engineering, Arab Technical Construction Company (Arabtec), Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, Engineering Contracting Company (ECC), Arab Construction Company (ACC)and Dubai Contracting Company (DCC)- all local, the Australian/local Nasa Multiplexand the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct. The package is scheduled to take about 18 months to complete.

The local office of Germany's Bauer Internationalis carrying out the piling package on the estimated AED 147 million ($40 million) project.

The UK's Hyder Consultingis carrying out the civil and structural engineering designs package. US-based Gensler & Associates Internationalis the design architect for the gateway building and the masterplan consultant for the DIFC project. The US' Turner International is the project manager for the entie DIFC development, which will be located on a 3.5 million-square-metre plot next to Emirates Towers.
