Contract with US-led joint venture extended
Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has extended the project management services contract for the Doha Metro Green Line with the joint venture (JV) comprising the US Hill International and local Astad Engineering Consultancy and Project Management Company.
The contract extension, valued at QAR 157m ($43m), is for a period of 30 months, according to a statement issued by Hill International, which has an 80 per cent of the JV.
The Green Line is one of three lines under construction for the Doha Metro.
Also known as the Education Line as it passes through Qatars Education City, the Green Line runs east from Al-Mansoura to Al-Riffa in the west. The line also features stops at Hamad Hospital, Al- Shaqab and the upcoming Qatar National Library.
The Green Line will include 11 stations over approximately 22 kilometres and is expected to accommodate 140,000 passenger trips per day by 2021.
In May, Qatar Rail appointed Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) to replace the joint venture of South Koreas Samsung C&T, Spains OHL and the local Qatar Building Company (QBC) on the construction of major stations for the Doha Metro project.
