Doha Metro seeks project management firms

Current project management consultancy contracts expire in July 2016

Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) is inviting companies to bid for the project management consultancy (PMC) services for phase 1 of the Doha Metro, as contracts with current PMCs are set to expire in July 2016.

The sought PMC contracts are to be mobilised before the current contracts expire and will last until June 2020.

Current PMC contracts for the initial phase of the Doha Metro are with the US’ Jacobs Engineering and Hill International as well as with a joint venture between the US’ Louis Berger and France’s Egis Rail.

The submission for bid documents closes on 7th January.

The selected PMC consultants are to manage eight design and build construction contracts currently in progress for the phase 1 of the Doha Metro. The earliest segment of Doha Metro’s phase 1, the 6 kilometre elevated and at grade track and three stations of the Red Line South, is due for completion by autumn 2016.

Earlier this month, Qatar Rail has also prequalified several firms for the contract to operate phase 1 of the Doha Metro as well as the Lusail tram.

Firms that were prequalified for the contract to operate phase 1 of the Doha Metro include:

  • MTR Corporation (Hong Kong)
  • MHI – JR West/Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan)
  • Serco (UK)
  • Transdev Dublin Light Rail (Ireland)/Seoul Line 9 Operation Company (South Korea) JV 
  • RATP Dev (France) /KEOLIS (France) JV

MTR, Serco, the joint venture of Transdev Dublin and Seoul Line 9, and the French JV consisting of RATP Dev and Keolis were likewise prequalified to bid for the Lusail tram, in addition to the French-German JV of Arriva and DB International, and the UK’s National Express.
