Dolphin Energy awards Rolls-Royce turbine deal

23 May 2012

Deal for three turbines worth a total of $136m

The local Dolphin Energy has awarded the UK’s Rolls-Royce a $136m contract to supply three 52MW gas turbines for its pipeline project between Qatar and the UAE.

The deal will include long-term support and will be used to help transport 2 billion standard cubic feet a day (scf/d) of gas from the gas-rich Qatar to the UAE and Oman.

The turbines will be manufactured in the US and Canada.

The Dolphin project consists of a sub-sea pipeline that transports gas taken from the North Field and processed at Ras Laffan Industrial City to Al-Taweelah in Abu Dhabi and onto Oman.

In April MEED reported that Dolphin Energy received commercial bids from six contractors to carry out engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) on the upgrade of its gas compression facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
