Drake & Scull wins Mall of Qatar construction work

Contract for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is valued at $110m

Dubai-based Drake & Scull has been awarded a contract worth QR400m ($110m) for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work at the Mall of Qatar by Al-Khayyat Construction & Trading.

Work on the project is scheduled to start in the first quarter of next year and is slated for completion in June 2015.

UrbanCon Trading and Development is the main contractor on the mall, which will feature a hypermarket, a cinema, five department stores and at least 20 restaurants. In addition to a car park accommodating 7,000 cars, the mall will also have its own metro station.

The mall will be located in the Al Rayyan area and close to the 45,000-seater Al Rayyan FIFA 2022 World Cup stadium.

This year, Drake & Scull has won contracts to execute MEP works for the Fairmont Abu Dhabi Hotel and Serviced Apartments, the MEP for the Abu Dhabi Louvre museum being built on Saadiyat Island, the MEP for the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh and a real estate development in the western city of Jeddah, both in Saudi Arabia.
