First scheme to be announced in net metering initiative
Dubai Airports will install a 30kW solar array on the roof of the employee gate facility of Al-Maktoum International airport at Dubai World Central (DWC).
It will generate 48.8 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity a year, or about two-thirds of the power used by the building.
It will be the first grid-connected scheme in Dubai to take advantage of the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) net metering scheme. The scheme, launched in January 2015, allows consumers to feed solar photovoltaic (PV) energy back to the grid, and reduce their bills.
Swiss firm ABB expect to complete its rooftop solar array in mid-2015.
