State utility Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded a AED1.1bn ($299.5m) contract to a consortium of Germany’s Siemens and Egypt’s Elsewedy Power to build the fourth phase expansion of the Al-Aweer H Station power plant.
The expansion project will add three gas turbines with a total capacity of 815MW. The turbines are expected to be operational in phases starting from 29 February 2020 and ending on 30 April of that year.
The H Station plant currently has a capacity of 1,996MW.
The Siemens/Elsewedy consortium submitted the lowest bid for the project during a competitive bidding process in 2017. Dewa received proposals from 12 international contractors on 21 June for the fourth phase expansion of the H station.
The successful bidders proposal was marginally lower than the AED1.134bn price submitted by Spain’s Acciona, the second lowest bidder.
China’s Harbin Electric submitted the third lowest price of AED1.172bn.
