Work will involve installing transmission line for planned new power capacity

State utility Dubai & Electricity Water Authority (Dewa) has invited contractors to submit proposals for a transmission line project in preparation for the expansion of the Aweer H power station.

The work will involve the supply and installation of cabling for a 400kV connection to the planned fourth phase of the Aweer H power station.

Contractors have until 16 May to submit proposals for the transmission scheme.

In February, Dewa invited contractors to submit proposals for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the fourth-phase expansion of the emirate’s Aweer H power station.

Contractors have until 31 May to submit proposals for the construction deal.

MEED reported in August 2016 that Electricitie de France (EDF) had been awarded the consultancy contract for the fourth-phase expansion of the Aweer H station.

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) awarded EDF an estimated AED22.2m ($6.1m) contract to provide engineering consultancy services for the power project, which will increase the capacity of the plant by 700MW.

The current Aweer H Station has a total capacity of 1,846MW, which was developed over three phases between 1998 and 2009.

Peak power demand growth in Dubai reached 5.5 per cent in 2014, and with consumption set to grow between 4.5 per cent and 5 per cent a year in the run-up to hosting the Expo event in 2020, Dewa is pushing ahead with an ambitious capacity expansion programme.
