- Dubai plans new cable car scheme
- Project will connect Dubai Festival City with Dubai Metro
- Project is just one of the new projects planned for the creek area
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to build a new cable car crossing the Dubai Creek.
The authority is preparing to invite consultants to submit proposals for the design of the project, which will connect Dubai Festival City and the terminus of the Dubai Metros Green Line at the Creek station.
There is already a cable car alongside the creek at Creek Park in the Umm Hurair area.
The new cable car scheme will achieve several objectives. Firstly, it will connect Dubai Festival City to the Dubai Metro, and secondly it will create a new tourism attraction in the creek area.
Ridership on the metro to the Creek station terminus is limited as there are few completed buildings in the surrounding Jadaf area. That will change in the coming years as new schemes in Jadaf, Dubai Healthcare City phase two and Culture Village are completed.
Other new projects are also planned along the bank of the creek. The largest is Dubai Creek Harbour at the Lagoons, which was launched by local developers Emaar Properties and Dubai Holding in October last year. The scheme will aim to develop a residential, commercial and leisure destination for Dubai, much like Emaars other developments, Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina.
