Civil engineering contract is latest to be tendered at the airport this year

Dubai Airports Corporation has received bids from contractors for a contract to complete the civil engineering work for the people-mover system serving concourse 4 at Dubai International airport.

The contract involves building the infrastructure for a people mover that will connect the existing Terminal 1 with concourse 4. A package to refurbish Terminal 1 is expected to be tendered at a later date.

In July, the local Alec was awarded the contract to build the substructure and superstructure for concourse 4 at Dubai International airport. The estimated AED175m ($48m) contract involves installing pre-cast and in-situ concrete for the new concourse. The project is one of several major packages that will be tendered for the airport building. Other upcoming packages include the mechanical, electrical and plumbing work, an automated people mover, structural steel and the building envelope.

The local Al-Naboodah Contracting is working on the enabling works package.

Alec won the contract to manage the construction of the concourse in February.

The concourse will be located to the west of the existing concourse 1 near to the cargo terminal and will be connected to Terminal 1 by an elevated bus road. The site area covers about 225,000 square metres and the total built-up area is expected to be about 135,000 sq m.

Alec is also building concourse 3, which is due to open at the end of 2012. It secured the contract in 2009, which involves building 20 contact gates, including 18 gates specifically designed for A380 aircraft.
