Dubai Municipality received six proposals for the contract to construct a sewerage system interconnecting Jebel Ali sewage infrastructure to the municipality’s network.

The lowest bid of AED860m ($234m) was submitted by the local Nael Construction & Contracting. The low bid was 6.6 per cent lower than the AED920m proposal submitted by Kuwait’s MA Kharafi.

The full list of bidders and prices is:

Nael Construction & Contracting, AED860m

MA Kharafi, AED920m

Mabani Delma (local)/ Concord (local), AED990m

Detech Contracting (local)/ Gulermak (Turkey), AED1.2bn

The project is part of the project to more than double the capacity of the Jebel Ali sewage network, which is a key part of the programme to upgrade Dubai’s wastewater network.

MEED reported in April 2016 that a joint venture of the local/Belgian Belhasa Six Construct and India’s Larsen & Toubro had been awarded the contract to build the second phase of Dubai’s Jebel Ali sewage treatment plant.

The municipality is also planning to build a deep-sewer tunnel and network in the Deira area of the emirate, similar to the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP) in Abu Dhabi.
