Dubai tenders The Island

The resort is being developed by Wasl on an island close to Jumeirah Beach Hotel

Local developer Wasl has reissued tender documents for the main construction works for The Island project in Dubai.

Prospective bidders for the project include the local Alec, the local Arabian Construction Company, the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct and Beijing-based China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the Saudi Binladin Group, and India’s Shapoorji Pallonji.

Tender documents for the contract had previously been issued in 2020 when the project was being delivered with a consultancy team led by South Africa’s Mirage. Germany’s Kling Consult is now the project manager for the project.

Located on a 10.5ha island, the project is planned to include properties featuring the MGM, Bellagio and Aria hotel brands.

It is located off the coast of Umm Suqeim, near the Jumeirah public beach, and is expected to feature 1,400 hotel rooms and apartments, in addition to retail, food and beverage and entertainment options.

Belhasa Six Construct has completed marine works for the project, and Dubai-headquartered Port Saeed Transport & Building Contracting Company was selected to deliver site preparation works.

A contract award for the project could be the largest construction deal signed in Dubai in recent years. According to regional projects tracker MEED Projects, the last construction or transport contract valued at over $250m was awarded in 2020 when the local General Contracting Company (GCC) secured work on the Jewel of the Creek project in Deira.

Contractors are also preparing to submit bids on October 10 for the main construction contract for the Six Senses resort on the Palm Jumeirah.

The project has a built-up area of 135,866 square metres (sq m) and includes a residential scheme comprising 131 penthouses, 32 sky villas and nine beachfront villas.

Select Group and Emirates Strategic Investments Company (Esic) are jointly developing the resort.
