Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has tendered two road construction contracts. The deadline for submissions for both tenders is 15 October.

The largest contract, which is estimated to be worth about AED600m ($163m) is for the upgrade of an intersection in the Karama area next to Zabeel Park on the road leading from World Trade Centre to the Burjuman Centre. The works include the construction of a 300 metre-long and 22 metre-wide bridge, and a 15 metre-deep underpass.

The other contract, which is estimated to worth AED500m, that has been tendered is for work on the parallel roads corridor in the Business Bay area. The consultant for both projects is US-based Parsons International.

The RTA is planning another major road scheme in the old areas of Dubai. Parsons has confirmed that it has been appointed as the engineering consultant for the Shindagha corridor scheme.

As reported by MEED in June, the US firm will complete the preliminary concept and design, prepare tender documentation and supervise the construction of the project, which includes a signature bridge across the entrance to the Dubai Creek, a 12 lane expressway and various intersections in Deira and Bur Dubai. Parsons will also conduct an evaluation of the existing Shindagha tunnel.
