Saudi-based firm wins contract

Dubai Airports Company has selected Saudi Arabia’s National Parking Company (Mawgif) to design and build a car park facility that can accommodate up to 3,000 cars at Dubai International airport.

The new car park will bring Dubai International’s total car parking capacity to 8,000 once completed.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The new car park will serve Dubai International’s Terminal 1. The terminal caters to more than 60 international airlines and is connected to Concourse D through a train. Terminal 1 is understood to have a capacity to handle more than 20 million passengers a year.

The project is part of the a 10-year contract Mawqif recently won to manage, operate and maintain all car parks at both the Dubai International and Al-Maktoum International airports.

Dubai Airports said Mawgif will be deploying “state-of-the-art” parking acess control and payment technology at both airports.

”The car park is the first and last experience when you drive to and from the airport,” Andrew Perrier, Chief Business Development Officer for Mawgif, the National Parking Company, said in a statement. “We look forward to working closely with Dubai Airports… to deliver our world class infrastructure, technology and operations for all car park users at all terminals and locations.”

Mawgif is understood to be managing car parks in seven airports with a combined capacity for about 100,000 car park spaces across the Middle East region

Dubai Airports Company said it currently has 5,000 parking spaces across its three terminals at Dubai International.

The airport processed 78 million passengers in 2015, which is expected to increase to 83 million in 2016. Dubai International has a total capacity of 90 million passengers annually.
