Dubai to tender Green Line metro extension in late 2015

28 January 2014

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority also planning to extend the Red Line

Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to tender an extension of the existing Green metro line by the end of 2015, MEED’s Destination Dubai 2020 conference has been told.

Mohammed Abubaker al-Hashimi, director of planning and business development at the RTA, told the MEED event on 28 January that detailed designs for a 20.6-kilometre extension, with 11 new stations, to the Green Line were under way. Construction tenders for the extension may be ready by late 2015.

The RTA is planning for the Green Line extension and a 3.5km extension to the Red Line, from Rashidya to Mirdif City Centre, to be completed by 2020 in time for the Dubai Expo event. The state transport body is also looking at an 8-15km extension of the existing Red Line to the planned Dubai Expo site.
