Construction work on the second phase of the Dubai Parks development has already started

DXB Entertainments is unlikely to appoint a project manager for the second phase of its Dubai Parks and Resorts development in Dubai.

“We may not appoint a project manager following our experience from the first phase of the development. We are likely to manage the project internally,” says the chief parks executive officer of DXB Entertainments, Stanford Pinto.

Pinto also told MEED that the second phase, which will be a Six Flags branded theme park, will see the Six Flags International offer “some of its own expertise to support the development of the park.”

The company, which is majority owned by the state-backed Meraas, also recently said that it has started work on the AED2.6bn ($708m) second phase of the scheme. It will be the first Six Flags-branded theme park in the region and will include 27 rides and attractions for all ages across six themed zones: Thrillseeker Plaza; Magic Mountain; Fiesta Texas; Great Escape; Great Adventure; and Great America. It is scheduled to open in late 2019, in time for the 2020 Expo.

The programme manager on the first phase of the Dubai Parks and Resorts, which fully opened this week, was South Korea’s Samsung C&T. US-based Hill International was the project manager for the rides.
