Egypt Air flight sent warnings before crashing

Egypt’s navy said it found human remains, wreckage and the personal belongings of passengers floating in the Mediterranean Sea

The Egypt Air flight, which went missing early on 19 May, is understood to have sent a series of warnings before it crashed in the Mediterranean Sea shortly before it was expected to land.

Egypt’s navy said it found human remains, wreckage and the personal belongings of passengers floating in the Mediterranean Sea following a search and rescue mission.

Egypt’s Armed Forces published pictures on 21 May of the recovered items, which included Egypt Air branded debris, seat fabric with designs in the airline’s colors, and a yellow lifejacket.

The cause of the crash has not been confirmed with French and Egyptian investigators saying “it is too early to determine what happened.”

The rescue team has still not retrieved the plane’s black box and investigators from both countries have been reluctant to rule out the possibility of a terrorist attack.

This is the third incident to hit Egypt’s aviation industry following the downing of the Metrojet flight in October last year and the hijacking of the domestic Egypt Air flight earlier this year.

Analysts have said that the crashing of the Egypt Air flight will have an impact on the country’s tourism sector, which has seen visitor number decline by up to 50 per cent compared with 2015 amid security fears.
