Egypt awards Sidi Krier power packages

The local Orascom Construction Industries with Belgium’s Besix has been awarded the£E570m ($106m) civil works package on the 750MW Sidi Krier combined cycle power plant.

A second local company Hassan Allam & Sons with Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company has won the £E550m ($102m) civil works package on the identical El-Atf plant.

Earlier in January, Italy’s Ansaldo Energia was awarded the contract for two 250MW steam turbines for both plants (MEED 21:9:07).

West Delta Electricity Production Company is the client on the scheme. It has also issued the first tenders for the extension of the Abu Qir plant.

Bids for the two 650MW steam turbines are due by mid-February with an award expected at the end of July. The deadline for bids for the boiler package is 6 March with an award due in mid-August (MEED 21:9:07).

Bids are also due for the engineering services contract for the 1,300MW Ain el-Sokhna steam plant in mid-February. Bidders include the local/US Power Generation Engineering & Services Company (Pgesco), Belgium’s Tractebel and Canada’s SNC Lavalin.
