Egyptian contractor wins Kuwait road work

27 March 2017

Project was recently revived by Ministry of Public Works

Egypt’s Arab Contractors has been appointed as the main contractor to build the Al-Nuwaiseeeb Road project in Kuwait, according to sources close to the scheme.

The Egyptian contractor signed the deal with Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works earlier this month, say sources working in Kuwait.

The KD170m ($560m) project involves the construction of nine intersections with multiple floors, six lanes, and an upper ring bridge. The road will cover a distance of 37 kilometres and is expected to be completed within three years.

This will add to Arab Contractors existing pipeline of projects currently underway in Kuwait. The company has $17.2bn-worth of projects currently under construction in Kuwait, according to regional projects tracker MEED Projects.

The Al-Nuwaiseeb project was previously put on hold and only recently revived by the ministry.

Earlier this month MEED reported that Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works is planning to spend KD700m ($2.3bn) on projects in the financial year of 2017/18, according to Ghalib al-Shamari, the ministry’s assistant undersecretary of the special projects department.

This is set to be a 30 per cent decrease from the figure announced in November last year when the ministry said that it had earmarked $3.3bn for projects.
