Local developer Tatweer Misr has signed an agreement with US-based Crystal Lagoons to build a man-made lagoon at its North Coast tourism project.

The contract is for a lagoon at the 100,000 square metre masterplanned development Fouka Bay, which will be made up of retail, residential and hospitality units.

In late 2016, MEED reported that France’s Accor Hotels will manage two hotel properties at Fouka Bay.

The Fairmont Fouka Bay, which is set for completion in 2019, will feature 250 rooms and 150 Fairmont branded residences. The Swissotel Fouka Bay will comprise of 300 rooms and 200 residential units, and will be completed in 2022. Both hotels will be built within 50 kilometres of Marsa Matruh International Airport.

Tatweer Misr’s other major project include the $1bn Il Monte Galala scheme in the Ain Sokhna area. In late last year the developer also signed an agreement with Crystal Lagoons for the development of a lagoon that connects to the sea at the project.

The Il Monte Galala mixed-use project, which is being developed 120 kilometres west of Cairo in Ain al-Sokhna, will be launched over three phases featuring about 5,000 housing units and two hotels.

The first phase is expected to be completed by 2021, with the second and third phases likely to be delivered by 2025.
