A new study by IDC has found that US-based EMC Corporation was the top provider of external disk storage systems again in 2008. In addition to being number one in revenue and capacity shipped in the external disk storage systems market for 2008, EMC extended its revenue share lead over its top two largest competitors, according to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, March 2009. EMC's 2008 share of the worldwide networked storage market - which includes NAS (network attached storage), Fibre Channel SAN (storage area network) and iSCSI SAN - was more than double that of its nearest competitors.
