Emicool to develop Motor City district cooling plants

22 January 2008
Emirates District Cooling Company (Emicool) has been awarded the contract to develop two new district cooling plants at the Motor City development in Dubai.

Once completed, the plants will be able to provide up to 92,000 tonnes of refrigeration to the development.

The construction of both plants has been awarded to the UK’s Drake and Scull. Plant 7 will be completed by June 2008, while Plant 8 will be completed by February 2010. The plants will be constructed for a cost of AED600m ($163m) and generate up to 46,000 tonnes of refrigeration each.

With the additional capacity, Emicool will be able to provide chilled water to five major projects in the area: the Dubai Autodrome, the Up Town at Motor City, Green Community Motor City, Business Park, and the Formula 1 theme park.

Emicool is a subsidiary of Msharie, the private equity arm of Dubai Investments.
