Emirates Airline has procured 128 customised buses from Germany-based Cobus Industries, the firm said in a statement.
The buses will transport passengers between Dubai International airport’s terminals and Emirates’ aircraft at remote stands.
According to the airline, 10 of these buses are now in active service and 30 more will be delivered next year. The remaining units will be delivered by 2020.
Emirates says the new buses have convenient ramp access and fold-up seats to make travel more comfortable for customers who use wheelchairs, or are travelling with baby strollers.
MEED understands Emirates’ airport services team and ground handling partner, Dnata, will manage the bus fleet from a central control room using an advanced resource planning software.
Emirates Airline reported a half-year profit of $62m, some 86 per cent lower when compared with the profit reported in the first half of its previous fiscal year.
