Rooftop facility will generate up to 1MW at peak periods

Dubai-based airline Emirates has installed a 1MW photovoltaic (PV) facility on its Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre in Dubai.

The project is part of the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority’s (Dewa’s) Shams solar rooftop programme. The installed system includes 2,990 PV panels, which will produce up to 1MW of power during peak periods.

The panels are expected to provide more than 1,884 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity a year.

In addition to its Shams rooftop solar initiative, Dubai is pressing ahead with its ambitious Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum solar park.

Dubai has set a target for the solar park to provide 5,000MW of solar energy by 2030, up from the originally planned 3,000MW.
