Emirates leases Boeings to cover Airbus delays

09 March 2007

Dubai-based carrier Emirates has signed an agreement with the US' GE Commercial Aviation Services to lease five more Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

The airline said the aircraft, due to be delivered in the second half of 2008, would minimise the impact of any shortfalls in its fleet projections. This appears to be a veiled reference to delays in the delivery of the A380 aircraft. Emirates has 45 of the super-jumbos on order from Europe's Airbus, making it the largest operator of the aircraft. They are due to enter service in April next year.
