Contract covers provision of services to GE aircraft engines for 12 years
- Emirates placed an order for 150 Boeing 777X in 2013, which are powered by the GE9X engines
- A separate long-term contract was signed for maintenance and support of existing and new fleet
Dubais Emirates Airline signed a $16bn maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) deal on 9 November with GE Aviation for the GE9X engines that will be used by its 150 Boeing 777X aircraft currently on order.
The contract covers a 12-year period and is the largest MRO contract that the airline has signed to date.
Emirates placed an order for 150 Boeing 777Xs during the 2013 Dubai Airshow, worth $76bn. It was and remains the single largest order by value in the history of US commercial aviation. the order included 300 units of GE9X engines, which alone have a cost $16bn based on list price.
Emirates also signed a 12-year OnPoint solution contract with GE Aviation worth $36 million, which covers the maintenance and inventory support for various avionics, electrical power and mechanical systems on all Emirates Boeing 777 aircraft in current service and the 44 more 777-300ERs on order.
Emirates currently has 273 aircrafts on order, of which 77 is with Frances Airbus and the rest with Boeing.
The Emirates Groups revenues for the first half of its current fiscal year are down 2.3 per cent due to the impact of a strong dollar to other currencies, but revenues are a record high, growing at 65 per cent over the same period during the previous year primarily due to savings made from lower oil prices.
