Airbus A380 engines contract is largest ever order for UK-based group
Emirates airline has signed a $9.2bn deal with UK-based Rolls-Royce for engines for 50 Airbus A380 aircraft, the president of the Dubai-based airline announced.
The agreement is the largest ever order for Rolls-Royce, which will supply more than 200 Trent 900 engines to the Emirates fleet.
Emirates president Tim Clark said in London on 17 April that the contract was a fair fight between Engine Alliance and Rolls-Royce and the latter was chosen based on the performance of the engine and the cost.
Engine Alliance is a 50/50 joint venture of US companies General Electric and Pratt & Whitney. The group provided the engines for Emirates first A380 aircraft 13 years ago.
The engines will power the 50 Airbus A380 aircraft the UAE airline ordered at the Dubai Airshow in 2013.
