Local oil and gas group building facility to convert sewage and landfill to compressed gas
Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) subsidiary Emirates Gas has signed an agreement with Dubai Municipality to develop a facility to treat land and sewage waste to produce compressed natural gas (CNG).
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) covers the use of sewage and landfill in Al-Aweer and Al-Qusais to feed an Emirates Gas facility to convert waste to bio-methane, which can then be compressed into CNG.
The plant, which is expected to be completed in a year, can supply enough CNG to fuel 15,000 light vehicles a day.
Dubai-based Enoc is a state-owned oil and gas group involved in exploration and production, processing, storage, trading and retail of hydrocarbon products.
