Technical hitches have delayed the rollout of mobile number portability (MNP) and broadband internet sharing until 2011
The UAE telecoms regulator has said that technical hitches have delayed the rollout of mobile number portability (MNP) as well as broadband internet sharing between Etisalat and Du until next year, The National has reported. The main cause behind the delay in broadband sharing was applying the “bitstream” technology to link up the two fixed-line networks, Mohamed al-Ghanim, TRA’s director general said. Bitstream is installed on software and hardware packages in order to identify when a subscriber of one operator is using the service provided by the other. “What we’re doing is bitstream with the fibre, which is happening for the first time around the world,” he said.
