Contractors have until 1 July to prepare bids for the Metro Red Line North extension, sources close to the project tell MEED.
The initial submission date was 3 June.
The line will extend from Doha Metro's under-construction Red Line North to the Al-Bayt stadium in Al-Khor, which is being built for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
MEED reported that most, if not all, contractors bidding for the Green Line extension are also planning to bid for the Red Line North extension work.
The consortiums that submitted a bid for the Green Line extension contract last December are understood to include:
- Aktor (Greece)/Larsen & Toubro (India)/STFA (Turkey)/ Yapi Merkezi (Turkey)/Aljaber Engineering (local)
- FCC (Spain)/Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
- Impregilo (Italy)/SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea)/Galfar al-Misnad Engineering & Contracting (local)
- Porr (Austria)/ Sixco/HBK Contracting (local)
- QDVC(France/local)/GS Engineering & Construction (South Korea)/Al-Darwish Engineering (local)
- Rizzani de Eccher(Italy)/Lotte E&C (South Korea)/Redco International (local)
In 2013 and 2014, the project client awarded the Red Line North’s first phase to two consortiums.
A consortium comprising Italy’s Rizzani de Eccher, South Korea’s Lotte E&C and local contractor Redco International is executing the red Line North’s at-grade and elevated package.
A second consortium comprising Italy’s Impregilo, South Korea’s SK Engineering & Construction and local Galfar al-Misnad is executing the line’s underground package.
The Metro is expected to start commercial operations in 2020, two years prior to the staging of the Fifa World Cup in Doha.
