Malaysia-based offshore sub-contractor Eversendai Offshore plans to complete its order of delivering 10 offshore jackets for Italian contractor Saipem by the end of 2018.
The jackets are being built at Eversendai’s fabrication yard in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, and will be delivered to Saipem in phases this year, the firm’s chief executive has told MEED.
The 10 jackets, worth 24,000 tonnes of steel, would be deployed at Saudi Aramco’s key offshore fields of Safaniya, Marjan, Hasbah, Zuluf and Berri, Narish Nathan said.
Saipem awarded the contract in October 2017 to Eversendai, which was in a contest with UAE-based Lamprell for the job, Nathan said.
Saipem is one of the five main offshore contractors which have a long-term agreement (LTA) with Aramco to exclusively bid for the Saudi oil giant’s offshore projects.
The LTA contractors are reportedly finding themselves stretched to cope with the load of offshore work from Aramco coming their way, in turn handing out part of the fabrication jobs to sub-contractors.
Easing the workload on its existing LTA contractors is understood to be one of the primary reasons why Aramco is reportedly looking to expand its pool of offshore contractors.
