11 March 2018
Project will involve developing an electrical storage scheme to store energy from solar and wind facilities

Jordan’s Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources (MEMR) has expanded the prequalification list for the upcoming electrical storage tender.

MEMR has increased the list of prequalified groups to 25, with the following two consortiums added to the qualified list:

  • Neoen (France)/ Catalyst MENA Clean Energy Cooperative (Netherlands)/ Tesla Energy Products (US), (EPC)
  • Zorlu Energi Elektrik Uretim Anonim Sirketi (Turkey)/ Tesla Energy Products (US), (EPC)

MEED had reported in January that 23 groups had been prequalified to participate in the electrical storage for renewable energy tender. The storage project will be located in the Ma’an Development area of Jordan, which is connected to the existing Ma’an solar substation.

The electrical storage project will have a power capacity of at least 30MW, with an energy capacity of 60MWh, which will primarily be used for controlling photovoltaic (PV) solar and wind energy. The project will the first phase of electrical storage in Jordan. The scheduled commissioning date for the first phase is April 2019.

The work will involve the design, financing, construction, commissioning and ownership and maintenance (BOM) of the electrical storage facility.

Germany’s Fichtner is advising the MEMR on the storage project.
