Prequalified firms are still waiting for the client, Kuwait’s Public Works Ministry (MPW), to issue the tender for the next package of the Kuwait International airport development.

“There have not been any new updates since June,” a source familiar with the scheme tells MEED.

Package 2 comprises passenger services buildings and roads that connect to the under-construction Terminal 2.

MEED understands the PMC contract covers Terminal 2, as well as package 2.

MPW awarded Turkey’s Limak the KD1.3bn ($4.3bn) contract for the construction of Terminal 2 in 2016.

Kuwait International handled 13.7 million passengers in 2017, an increase of 17 per cent compared to 2016 and the volume of its air cargo rose to 241,000 tonnes in 2017 - up from 195,500 tonnes in 2016.

There are also plans to build a $12bn new airport in the northern part of the country. The proposed new airport is to be procured as a public-private partnership (PPP) project.
