

The project client has extended the tender closing date for contract to extend the Red Line North of the metro to 29 July.
The line will extend from the under-construction Red Line North to the Al-Bayt stadium in Al-Khor, which is being built for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
At least five groups are preparing to bid for the contract. They are:
- FCC (Spain)/Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
- Porr (Austria)/HBK Contracting(local)/Midmac (local)
- Rizzani de Eccher (Italy)/Redco International (local)
- Salini Impregilo (Italy)/SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea)
- Yapi Merkezi (Turkey)/STFA (Turkey)/Al-Jaber Engineering (local)
In 2013 and 2014, the project client awarded the Red Line North’s first phase to two consortiums.
A consortium comprising Italy’s Rizzani de Eccher, South Korea’s Lotte E&C and local contractor Redco International is executing the line’s at-grade and elevated package.
A second consortium comprising Italy’s Impregilo, South Korea’s SK Engineering & Construction and local Galfar al-Misnad is executing the line’s underground package.
Bids for the extension of the Doha Metro Green Line were submitted last December. Bidders are understood to include:
- Aktor (Greece)/Larsen & Toubro (India)/STFA (Turkey)/ Yapi Merkezi (Turkey)/Aljaber Engineering (local)
- FCC (Spain)/Consolidated Contractors Company (Lebanon)
- Impregilo (Italy)/SK Engineering & Construction (South Korea)/Galfar al-Misnad Engineering & Contracting (local)
- Porr(Austria)/ Sixco/HBK Contracting(local)
- QDVC(France/local)/GS Engineering & Construction(South Korea)/Al-Darwish Engineering (local)
- Rizzani de Eccher (Italy)/Lotte E&C (South Korea)/Redco International (local)
The Metro is expected to start commercial operations in 2020, two years prior to the staging of the Fifa World Cup in Doha.
