EXCLUSIVE: Sharjah receives port package bids

12 July 2018
The UAE is undertaking simultaneous port expansion projects across three emirates

Sharjah's Department of Seaports and Customs Authority has received bids for the contract to build a new dhow wharfage facility at Mina Khalid Port, one of the emirate’s three ports.

The project is part of the port’s overall expansion programme.

In December 2016, Belgium-based Besix won a $150m contract to build a new berth at Mina Khalid Port. The scope of the awarded contract includes dredging the port basin, construction of a cargo loading facility, a quay wall, marine rock revetment on the seaward perimeter of the reclamation area, and other related facilities.

Port expansion projects in other emirates are under way.

Besix is understood to have been selected for the contract to deepen the berth at the Port of Fujairah. The scope includes construction of a one kilometre quay and a 300,000 square metre storage yard.

Bids are also expected on 15 July for a contract to build a 3 kilometre quay wall and deepen Khalifa Port’s main channel and basin for the second container terminal.
