EXCLUSIVE: Technip picked to carry out design contract for Dalma gas field

04 January 2018
Project has an estimated budget of $800m

France’s Technip has been picked to carry out the front end engineering design (feed) contract for Abu Dhabi’s Dalma gas field development project, according to industry sources.

"The company has been informed that it has been selected and an official announcement is expected in the near future," said one of the sources.

Three other companies submitted bids for the feed contract:

  • Fluor Corporation (US)
  • Worley Parsons (Australia)
  • Bechtel (US)

The project is estimated to be worth $800m and is being developed by Adnoc Sour Gas, a subsidiary of state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) that was previously known as Al-Hosn Gas.

The scope of the project includes building platforms and pipelines at the Dalma field, which is located in the west of Abu Dhabi’s offshore territory between Dalma Island and the maritime border with Qatar.

Planned capacity for the development is 300 million cf/d.

Adnoc says it is undertaking a project for the development of the Dalma Gas Field in line with its objective to deliver a more sustainable and economic gas supply by implementing a fully integrated gas master plan that increases productivity, performance and delivery.

In December 2017 Abdulmunim Saif al-Kindy, head of Adnoc’s upstream directorate, told MEED his company is refocusing on the exploitation of its untapped gas resources as a means of improving the UAE’s energy security.

The UAE is aiming to be fully self-sufficient in terms of energy security by 2032.
