Organisers of Expo 2020 Dubai have reported that the event crossed the 20-million-visit milestone on 19 March.

Domestic visitors accounted for nearly 70 per cent of that figure, with school children accounting for a sizeable portion of the visits.

As of 25 February, more than 500,000 students from public and private schools across the UAE had visited the site. Overall, individuals under the age of 18 visited more than 2.8 million times.

Organisers also said repeat visits accounted for more than half of the 4.4 million visits seen in February.

In recent weeks, Expo 2020 has intensified its events calendar, with senior government officials and high-profile celebrities gracing the event.

Reduced ticket prices and limited-edition passports have also been launched for visitors who have collected 100 or more pavilion stamps on their regular expo passports.

Water Week, the 10th and final thematic week at the Expo takes place between 20-26 March and is part of the wider Programme for People and Planet.

Expo 2020 Dubai closes on 31 March.
