Fareed Zedan

Biography: Fareed Zedan was appointed governor of the Electricity Regulatory Authority in 2001 and then of the ECRA since its launch in 2005.
The authority operates under the Electricity Law, which was drafted by the ECRA after its launch and was adopted by the government in November 2005. He is responsible for the regulation and restructuring of the power sector, including tariff reform, licensing and encouraging private sector participation and investment in the industry. Zedan works with a board of directors chaired by the Water & Electricity Minister Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman al-Hussayen, with the governor of the authority acting as deputy.
Zedan is a professor of electrical engineering at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran, on Saudi Arabia’s east coast.
He holds a doctorate in high voltage power systems from the US’ University of Southern California.
