Firm bids low for Kuwait road project

Kuwait awarded over $5.3bn-worth of road projects in 2016

Kuwait’s Copri Construction Enterprises offered a low bid of KD61.8m ($203m) for the contract to build a section of the Northern Regional Road extending from the Abdaly Expressway to a future intersection that will link with the Subiya Expressway.

Apart from Copri, other companies that have submitted an offer for the contract include:

  • Galfar Engineering & Contracting (Oman): $205.5m
  • United Gulf Construction (local): $218.85m
  • Mohammed Abdulmohsin al-Kharafi & Sons (local): $222.7m
  • Al-Ghanim International General Trading & Contracting (local): $229.7m
  • Canar Trading & Contracting (local): $242.9
  • Consolidated Contractors Company (Kuwait subsidiary): $244.6m
  • Kuwait Arab Contractors (local): $251.5m
  • Green Line General Trading & Contracting (local): $263m
  • Combined Group Contracting (local): $298m

Bids for over $3.5bn-worth of road projects in Kuwait are under evaluation, with a further $5bn-worth of schemes under design or study, according to data from regional projects tracker MEED Projects.

The country awarded over $5.3bn-worth of road projects in 2016, marking the best year ever in terms of the country’s road contract awards. However, it is understood that some of these projects have yet to begin actual construction work as of early 2017.
