Contract will expand existing facilities at Hamad International airport

Qatar Airways has invited companies to submit bids on 1 May for the contract to build a new car park at Hamad International airport on the outskirts of Doha.

The structure will have a ground floor level, two above ground floors as well as rooftop parking. Altogether the gross floor area will be about 156,000 square metres, which will create enough space to park 3,200 vehicles.

More construction contracts are expected to be tendered at Hamad International airport this year as work starts on its expansion programme.

The plans consist of three main elements: the extension of the main terminal building; the construction of concourse D and E; and the connection with the Red Line of the Doha Metro.

The main terminal expansion will feature a new premium check-in area comprising 17 new counters, which will be served by a new access road and kerbside drop-off point to the east of the main terminal building. To the west, 47 new economy check-in counters will be built in addition to new baggage carousels.

The new D and E concourse will increase the size of the overall airport terminal by 400,000 square metres to more than 1 million square metres. The plan calls for a 1.3-kilometre-long concourse with a width of 60 metres.

Last year, the New Doha International Airport Steering Committee awarded a QR277m ($76m) contract to Jordan’s Consolidated Engineering Construction Company for land reclamation and revetment works for the enlargement of the existing reclaimed platform on the northwestern tip of the airport.

The 110 hectares of new land will be used for the new Western Taxiways. It is expected that the entire reclamation will be complete by the first quarter of 2017.
