Firms to submit bids for Jizan Economic City work

23 October 2008
A number of local contractors have been invited to submit bids for infrastructure work at Jizan Economic City.

The contract covers construction of a number of industrial roads and ancillary work within the first phase of the project. The work is expected to take at least 18 months.

An award is expected to be announced at the beginning of November.

Jizan Economic City, 50 kilometres north of Jizan, is being developed by a consortium headed by Saudi Binladin Group and the Malaysian firm MMC.

It will be spread over 117 square kilometres.

In September HSBC was awarded the advisory mandate for a $5bn aluminium smelter - one of the key elements of the project - to be built in the economic city (MEED 25:9:08).
