
The cabinet must now debate and issue related regulations to facilitate the enforcement of the new law, which will let non-Qataris buy and own real estate in selected areas in Qatar, including the proposed Pearl Island, West Bay Lagoon and Al Khor Resort projects.
Once in place, the law allows non-Qatari buyers to own selected real estate for 99-years with the possibility to extend the period by a further 99 years. Article 5 of the decree states that it will be possible for foreigners to own more than one property.
